2010. My Neighborhood

    There is one field that kids use to meet and play. Its corner is covered with garbage for years. The garbage smells bad and lots of rats are coming out of it. The people from this neighborhood are trying to contact the authorities to remove the garbage. When ever they say the name of the area they get the same answer “sorry we are to busy to deal with this problem for now, please call again in few days”. This is just a small example of how there are still small changes made in relationship white people have with other races and lower classes.

    I have called all the kids I found on that field and ask them to help me make this area an official playground for children. I took a symbolic contour silhouette of each one of them, and gave them paint to paint it how ever they like, to put their names to make it live and colorful, to show the true spirit of this place.

    The event was documented and I wrote a letter to the authorities saying how the applicants of this workshop were helping refreshing this place, how neighbors cant find help for years, and everything else, like it was.

    After one month, the neighbors called me saying that they came to collect all the garbage, cleaned it all and even planted 2 trees and promised to organize installing few of children’s swings and seesaws…

    This was all happening during Worlds Football Cup, so al the children were inspired by it.
